A year later I returned to JbarL as I felt strongly for its people, their philosophy of preservation, and the spectacular scenery. Montana has several nicknames, although non official, the most popular is “Big Sky Country” and big it is!!! Oh yes, and the sage smell is divine.

My fist visit in 2012 happened immediately after the big fires in Idaho. The skies were a greyish brown, the landscape had beautiful haze. Yet, people repeatedly told me “you have to see it when the sky is blue”. It is therefore that I returned the following year.

Montana is large, the fourth largest state in the USA, but ranks 44th in population and 48th in population density. Its economy is primarily based on agriculture, including ranching and grain farming. JbarL ranch is situated at the Centennial Valley, a place in nowhere, where the skies seem to cover the whole universe – a beautiful blue in the day and so starry at night. The cows roam around  grazing the land, never fed in feedlot. They are gently coaxed from one grazing area to the other. The motto of the ranch proprietors and general managers is “Don’t Stress the cows”. If we let people around us to live a JbarL cows’ lives,  we may achieve a stress-less world.

Wonderful photos, Ruti. I’ve always wanted to go to a dude ranch…felt like I was right there along with you. Hopefully, someday I will really get there.
